Grand Opening for Hazel Love

You may not be aware of this, but I am the proprietor of an Etsy shop.  If you are not familiar with Etsy, you should absolutely become part of their community.  My mom's husband suggested I look into it when I began sewing some tote bags, and was considering trying to sell some of them.  I opened a shop in October with not much sense of what I was really doing.

Etsy is a community of many talented artists and creators who have been given a forum to showcase their craft. Some join and sell their items as a hobby, and others make it a career.

When I opened my shop I thought I would like to sell some women's bags, and scarves that I was making.  I felt it out for a little while, I sold a bag to my boss for her sister, and one other.

Then I wanted a bag to use for bringing my sons stuff back and forth from daycare.  So I ended up designing one and I love it.

So I added the cute custom tote to my shop.

A few weeks later I was in the market for a bib for my son.  He has been a very drool ridden child since he was about two months old, so he is always wearing a bib.   When he became fairly mobile he would rip the bibs from his neck, causing some frustration on my part.  I also had some that the drool would leak right through and he would still be wet.  I was on a mission, I needed to find a bib with a snap closure and that would keep my sons clothing dry.  I was hard pressed to find something I liked.  I did some research and found a new waterproof fabric that was designed to make cloth diaper covers.  The same company makes plastic snap closures and a handy little tool to fasten them to the bibs.  I was sold.  Over the next few weeks I started making the bibs. Quickly I realized that I needed to share these with others who might be looking for the same qualities.  I added some to my shop.

I have realized how much I enjoy making baby products.  A few weeks ago I made my son a blanket.  My vision was of a fleece blanket that was backed with flannel.  Kind of like a flannel sheet sewn right to a snugly fleece blankie!  It came out really cute, and it's in his crib now.  I am making more and just listed two of them in my shop.

That's a bit of my shop story.   I am working really hard to make something out of it because I really love doing it.  I would love to make full time work from my shop (and blogging of course!).

So, now that I am feeling much more comfortable in my shop skin so to speak, I am going to throw a little bit of a Grand Opening.  To celebrate I'm going to give one of my items away to one of my readers.  I am offering one set of two bibs, OR one set of two burp cloths, winners choice.  I am not part of the giveaway crowd, but I thought I would give a go since it's coming from my own shop and all.

Here's what I want you to do...  Comment on this post.  Tell me what you would like to see in my shop, tell what is your favorite thing currently listed, your favorite fabric I carry, or another fabric you can recommend,  Whatever you think would be useful information to help me get my shop off the ground.  I am will leave the giveaway open until Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 9:00 p.m. and then choose a winner based on the comments, through Random.org.

Feel free to tell your friends, I'm looking for some exposure, ya know?  Oh, and you should probably check out my shop HERE
